WHAT IS VIBRATION PLATE THERAPY?

This treatment is meant to prevent bone loss through direct vibrations transmitted through the body that causes your muscles to contract and relax and bone-building cells called osteoblasts to produce. It also allows one to improve balance and muscular endurance. Vibration plate therapy consists of the mechanical, repetitive movement, or oscillatory motion, around an equilibrium point. Vibration plate therapy is a forced oscillation, where waves generated by motors underneath a platform are transmitted to the person on the machine.

Localized versions of this treatment target specific areas, whereas whole-body vibration plate therapy exposes your entire body to these fluctuations. It’s implemented by a platform on which static poses are held. Dynamic exercises can be performed depending on the type and force of the machine. The machine used in our office is the only one of its kind in the United States that provides pure, specific-frequency linear motion.

HISTORY OF VIBRATION PLATE THERAPY

The history of vibration therapy is one that highlights this technique’s amazing beneficial properties. In the late 1860s, a Russian inventor and physician by the name of Gustav Zander created a prototype machine that would produce vibrations through a system of pulleys and weights. Dr. John Harvey Kellogg later adopted the therapeutic device to be used in practice, supporting that it improved circulation and alleviated constipation.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?

There are multiple health benefits when it comes to vibration plate therapy. This procedure can improve bone density, improve circulation, increase muscle mass, reduce joint and back pain, alleviate stress, and boost metabolism. Several medical studies have shown that it could help people who are suffering from various ailments including, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, arterial stiffness, osteoporosis, and various musculoskeletal problems, among other conditions.

Vibration therapy can also help the elderly, who are typically unable to exercise on a regular basis. However, we advise you to be cautious of undergoing this treatment if you’re taking blood-thinning medications, suffer from heart disease, have diabetes, or are pregnant. Always ask the physician administering it if you are eligible for this treatment first.
