Herniated Disc Treatment in Newtown Square

Non-Surgical Solutions for Patients in Montgomery County, Delaware County, Chester County, & Philadelphia County

A herniated disc happens when the gel-like center of a spinal disc pushes through its tough outer ring and presses on nearby nerve roots. The result can range from localized back pain to shooting leg pain (sciatica), numbness, or weakness, depending on where in the spine the disc has been damaged. Conventional medicine often responds with medications, muscle relaxers, and ultimately surgery, but surgery carries real risks and a documented clinical failure rate significant enough to earn its own term: Failed Back Surgery Syndrome (FBSS).

Our goal at Dr. David W. Nadler & Associates is to identify and correct the root cause of your disc pain rather than mask it. As with every other injury we treat, we approach herniated disks with our extensive experience and advanced treatment options. We're here to help you feel better, move better, and be better, and in most cases, no referral is needed to get started.

Disc pain doesn't have to end in surgery. Call (610) 467-2227 to schedule your first visit with Dr. Nadler and learn more about our Newtown Square herniated disk treatments.

A Multi-Modal Approach to Disc Recovery

Herniated disc treatment at our Newtown Square office isn't built around a single technique. Dr. Nadler combines spinal decompression (VAX-D), focused and radial shockwave therapy, chiropractic care, and physical therapy into a coordinated plan designed around your specific injury. VAX-D spinal decompression creates negative intradiscal pressure through a precisely programmed decompression cycle, which can encourage herniated material to retract while improving blood flow and nutrient delivery to damaged disc tissue. Shockwave therapy, delivered using FDA-cleared technology backed by extensive clinical studies, is non-invasive, requires no anesthesia, and involves no recovery downtime.

Beyond those core modalities, our practice draws on a broad toolkit: the Graston Technique for soft tissue mobilization, vibration therapy, electrical stimulation, ultrasound therapy, linear gravity therapy, cupping, soft tissue massage, and nutritional support. Every tool serves the plan, not the other way around.

The Credentials Behind Your Care

Dr. Nadler holds D.C., C.C.S.P., and D.A.A.PM. designations, completed post-doctoral training in chiropractic neurology at Cleveland Chiropractic College, and earned board certification through the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners. He also holds an A.S. and L.P.T.A. in Physical Therapy from Harcum College in Bryn Mawr. That combination of neurology, physiology, and physical therapy training supports care for disc injuries at the structural, neurological, and rehabilitative levels.

In shockwave therapy specifically, his standing is rare: Dr. Nadler is one of only 300 doctors worldwide certified by the International Society for Medical Shockwave Treatment, and he has performed more radial and focused shockwave procedures than any provider in the Philadelphia region across more than 15 years of certified practice. The practice has been recognized as a Center of Excellence for chiropractic care and shockwave therapy services in the Delaware Valley.

His sports medicine background adds another dimension. Dr. Nadler served as Team Chiropractic Physician for the U.S. Men's National Soccer Team at the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup and was selected as one of the physicians for the 2003 Women's World Cup of Soccer. He served in team physician roles for the Philadelphia Soul, the Philadelphia Barrage (3-time Major League Lacrosse Champions), the Philadelphia Wings of the National Lacrosse League, and the Philadelphia Freedoms of World Team Tennis, and was a Sports Medicine Staff Chiropractic Physician at the 2001 X-Games. He has treated athletes across the NFL, NBA, MLB, and MLS. Dr. Nadler is licensed in both Pennsylvania and Delaware and remains an active member of the Pennsylvania Chiropractic Association, the American College of Sports Medicine, the American Chiropractic Association Council on Sports Injuries and Physical Fitness, the American Massage Therapy Association, and the International Society for Medical Shockwave Treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Chiropractic Care Safe for a Herniated Disc?

Chiropractic care is widely considered a conservative, non-invasive first-line approach to disc injuries. It doesn't carry the risks associated with surgery or the side effects of long-term pharmaceutical use. Dr. Nadler's thorough first-visit examination helps determine the safest and most effective approach based on the location and severity of your specific herniation.

Do I need a doctor's referral to be seen?

No referral is required in most cases. You can contact our Newtown Square office directly to schedule your initial consultation without a physician's order.

Can a herniated disc in my neck be treated the same way as one in my lower back?

Cervical herniations can produce arm pain, numbness, or weakness rather than the leg symptoms associated with lumbar disc injuries. The underlying treatment principles overlap, but the approach differs by location. A thorough examination helps determine which modalities and techniques are appropriate for your specific diagnosis.

If disc pain is limiting your movement or disrupting daily life, the next step is a thorough evaluation, not a guess. Contact Dr. David W. Nadler & Associates at (610) 467-2227 or reach out online to schedule your first visit!
