Herniated Discs

A disc is a structure located between the spinal bones. The disc is made up of two parts: a tough fibrous outer ring and a gel-like center. A herniated disc refers to a protrusion of the gel-like center of the disc through the fibrous outer ring. This usually occurs in the lower lumber region and often causes low back pain or pain down the legs. It can also occur in the neck area. A herniated disc can be caused by an accident or through a wear and tear process over the years.

The medical approach to this problem is often a combination of pain killers, muscle relaxers and then back surgery. Unfortunately, the failure of back surgery in so many is now called by a special name: FBSS- Failed Back Surgery Syndrome. Chiropractic care has had an excellent record with disc sufferers often saving them from the bleak prospect of surgery.
